Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS)

The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) is a voluntary initiative that seeks to increase maritime co-operation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region by providing an open and inclusive forum for discussion of regionally relevant maritime issues. In the process, it endeavours to generate a flow of information between naval professionals that would lead to common understanding and possibly co-operative solutions on the way ahead. India has assumed the Chairmanship of IONS on 20 Feb 2026.

Date: 06 - 09 Oct 2025

IWG Meeting on HADR was held at Nowshahr, IRAN. It was co-chaired by India and Iran. Delegates from six IONS countries participated in the event in person at Tehran.

IONS Emerging Leaders Panel Discussion

Venue: Kochi

Date: 27 - 28 Aug 2025

ELPD was held at Kochi from 27-28 Aug 2025. There were four sessions:

Future role of IONS in Fostering Maritime Security

IONS Medical Conference on HADR

Venue: INHS Asvini

Date: 01 – 02 Nov 2025

IONS Medical Conference on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) as part of Continued Medical Education (CME) was conducted at INHS Asvini from 01 – 02 Nov 2025. 11 IONS member countries (Indonesia, Iran, Madagascar, Mauritius, Maldives, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and South Africa) along with 02 observer nations (Russia and Japan) attended the Conference.
